This is the 19th year of the Prague Fringe Festival and is an integral part of the worldwide Fringe Alliance born out of the original Edinburgh Fringe. The festival is always held in Mala Strana’s many small theatre venues at the end of May and heralds the start of warm weather and sunshine in Prague.
Festival Founder and Director Steve Gove says “We can’t wait to celebrate our wonderful Fringe even if it’s in a more virtual way. Our summer just won’t be the same this year, not to mention the economic effect on the event but, along with the performers originally scheduled to join us this week we agree the show must go on, albeit in a socially distant, online way. And for those who’re disappointed that they are not in this wonderful city as planned, I’ll be taking you on a virtual tour, a personal guided Fringe city walkabout”.
The Prague Fringe Festival is planning a physical festival from 23-31 October, which we look forward to but in the meantime we are happy to have Virtual Fringe in its place!
For 12 years Prague College has been an enthusiastic supporter of Prague Fringe. A natural synergy exists between the college and the festival. An obvious example of this is the distinctive Prague Fringe bird logo and graphics, designed by Prague College’s Bachelor (Hons) Graphic Design graduate Alina Shupikova, who continues to work with the Prague Fringe team to this day.
The Festival and Prague College have also shown resilience in an unpredictable world, both finding creative solutions and opportunities to broadcast to an expanded global audience for live-stream entertainment and online learning.
We wish the Festival every success in both formats and encourage our students and college community to check out the festival’s website and enjoy the shows!
