Jo Hamill, a UK-based artist and academic at Teesside University, delivered a lecture on the theme "Lost for Words". She described the concept of containment of the written word, its tying down to the page, its order, its structure and the conventions it adheres to.
Errol Donald, a London-based brand and marketing professional and business mentor, delivered a lecture called "Echoes of an Era", dealing with the topic of typeface design and early graffiti from the 80s. Errol had long been fascinated by the visual presentation of letters, and in particular, their ability to both inform and express different aspects of culture.
Dave Farey, a designer of type faces for most existing print processes, delivered a lecture on Type & Identity. The lecture discussed the creation of bespoke fonts for all forms of media, business and leisure enterprises, plus commercial fonts based on historic forms and influences - and, of course, 21st century styles.
