Andrij Lyskov, Interactive Media student

by Alex Went, on 24 February 2015 15:08:42 CET

Andrij was born in Odessa, Ukraine, but moved to Prague with his family at an early age. He enjoys Prague College's sense of community and positive atmosphere

How did you hear about Prague College?

A friend who went to my school, Prague British School, came here to study and recommended it. I wasn't great at maths - in fact I intend to retake it this year - so I opted for a more creative course. I came along to an Open Day, where I was able to see all the facilities and take a tour of the college. That made up my mind. One of my ambitions is to go into the world of film production, so the Interactive Media programme at Prague College was an obvious choice.

What do you like most about studying here?

I like the teaching - they make the transition from school pretty easy, and I've really enjoyed being introduced to sound, video and design. The small class sizes mean the teaching is quite personal, and this also contributes to my enjoyment of the programme. The course attracts a diverse set of people. Not all of us are specialists, but the programme offers something for everyone. The facilities and location are both excellent; but most of all there's a great sense of community and a positive atmosphere

You're on the Student Council - what have you found most satisfying about that?

It's an opportunity to participate, and an important way of enhancing student life. I like being involved in a group whose purpose is to bring people together. A good example was the Music Night the Student Council organized in my first semester. Not only was it a great first event of the year, but also we made a profit and didn't need to touch the allocated budget. Many people from outside the college came: these kind of events are great for spreading awareness.

I'm in a band, The Heist, made up of a number of other Russian-speaking students. We've been going for about two years and play gigs around Prague (including Prague College, last week). The best way to describe our style is probably 'indie-synth-rock' - we've produced an EP and some demos, and you can find out more at our Facebook page.  Additionally, a friend and I run a small independent film studio here in Prague. Eventually I'd be interested in going to Canada to continue my film studies.

In a word, what makes Prague College special?

It's friendly and intimate. Not just the people, but everything about the place - I would definitely recommend it as a place to develop your education.
