Digital Applications in Art & Design

This unit is designed to introduce students to three Adobe CS Applications: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign. It has been designed for new and inexperienced users of the Adobe Creative Suite. Students will become familiar with the basics of digital image editing and creation using these applications. Step by step, students will be taken through a series of practical lessons in order progressively to build an understanding of the processes by which digital images are created and processed for different purposes.

Learning Outcomes:

In the Photoshop portion of the course, students will learn

  • the architecture of Photoshop
  • how to make basic selections
  • crop, color, composite
  • work with layers, masks, shadows, and more.
In the Illustrator segment, students will learn how to work with
  • paths and vectors in the process of illustration.
In the Indesign segment of the course, students will learn how to work with
  • multi-page layouts
  • text and image
  • layout composition, and more.
