Generations of Masculinity

by Haley Montowski, on Jan 22, 2019 12:34:13 PM

As social expectations, media, and gender roles shift and change, men in all stages of life are beginning to have different standards put on them than before, for example, when it comes to sensitivity and stereotyping. This radio package explores the topic of masculinity today from the point of view of three generations of men.

The three interviews feature Maciek (age 63), Jakub (age 27), and Austin (age 23).  These interviewees are all in different stages of life and having to navigate life at a time of changing expectations for men.

The interviews occurred in a variety of atmospheres and in each I got to discuss with these men how they feel regarding the evolution of gender roles, social media’s effect on the male psyche, and what the expectations are for a man in the 21st century.

All of the interviewees are from different places in the world – Poland/Ireland, the Czech Republic, and America – which gives this piece an international outlook. For some insights into the mysteries of how the male brain works, have a listen.

What’s a pickup line that would work on these men?

Do they watch their diets?

Find out in three short videos what these guys’ answers are for questions normally asked to women in interviews.
