A new group within the Prague College Research Center from the School of Art & Design has organized a series of workshops for its students and faculty members over the summer.
The Experimental Arts Research Lab (EARL) is a new initiative for further research and development of student and faculty authored projects requiring a dedication of time and resources beyond what is available in the classroom.

Members of EARL participated in collaboration with nomadic arts organization LIBAT earlier this summer in the Museum 3000 exhibition in the National Museum, Prague, and plan to develop interactive media collaborations with other universities and institutions in future.

This year's BA (Hons) Graphic Design graduate, Laetitia Desroches, was one of 12 people shortlisted from almost 1,200 entrants for the 2011 Penguin Design Award. The brief was to design a cover for a book by Gabriel García Márquez titled "One Hundred Years of Solitude".

Laetitia was invited to the award ceremony in London where her design was exhibited along with the other shortlisted entries and the winning designs.

Congratulations Laetitia!

Last week Prague College hosted The Secret of Ciphers – an International Conference on Cryptography and Intelligence.
The conference was organized by the School of IT & Computing and the Prague College Research Centre in cooperation with Charles University, Vojensky Historicky Ustav, National Security Authority (NBU) and Europeum.

Over the course of four days participants had a chance to hear talks given by professionals from all over Europe, visit an exhibition of cryptography equipment and attend workshops introducing cryptology with practical demonstrations.

Last week Prague College celebrated the project Underground City 3D/XXI. The exhibition explored all of the phases of the creation of this interdisciplinary on-line platform. Exhibited were graphic design works, research papers, videos and interactive installations. The event culminated with a reception where Stefano Cavagnetto, Head of School of IT & Computing and the Research Centre, summed up the project and introduced the ART CATALOGUE, a publication compiling all of the work done by Prague College and Libat during the last 2 years of the project.

In past few weeks George Allen, head of School of Art & Design organized and held a photograpy workshop in three parts, dealing with camera operation and with lighting. In the first part students had a chance to learn about exposure, depth of field and motion, while second and third part dealth with using of studio lights and green screen. discussing will deal with light placement, white balance and lighting quality.

As part of Master Speaker Series, Mr. Asgeir Fridgeirsson, founder and Director of ININ Consulting Agency and provider of public relation services mainly for Icelandic financial companies, gave a lecture on topic “Managing the Unmanageable - Witnessing the rise and fall of a small economy."

Kristoff Slussareff, our Interactive Media lecturer in film post-production and editing made this short film using the photographs of Julia Calfee, part of the "Ghosts of Bohemia" exhibition at DOX.

The film is based on a long- term dialogue with Julia Calfee, describing the atmosphere, feelings and discoveries which she faced through the 4 years of living in the legendary Chelsea Hotel in New York. Many prominent artists have lived at the hotel, including filmmakers, writers, composers, musicians, dancers and actors.

Pascal Silondi also held a short introduction to the Underground City XXI project.
