The exhibition will be held at Galerie 1, Stepanska 47, Prague 1, and it will stay open on weekdays until May 23, 10 AM - 4 PM.

 

 

The show, titled Our Space, will exhibit works of 16 students from Slovenia, France, Russia, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, UK and Slovakia.

Prague College Art&Design students led by their lecturer and Interactive Media program leader, Bethany Lacktorin,  took the challenge and for the second time joined the 48 Hour Film project.

During the last October weekend, same as all other Prague participants, they worked hard to create a full production film and submit their final video by sunday evening - october 30th. The 48 Hour Film, the world largest teamed filmmaking competition, took place in Prague for the second time this year. Following the competition rules, our students and lecturers had exactly 48 hours to make a short movie with complete production happening within these two days only.

 

 

 

 

The screenings of all the films will take place in Lucerna on Friday October 5 in two time slots. Our team under the name Mixed Grill Production will have their film screened at 8pm and the winners will be announced at 10pm. Come to Lucerna and support our students and lecturers in this exciting filmmaking project!

Induction Weekend brought students from the BA Graphic Design and BAFA Experimental Media program to Telc and Slavonice, giving them a chance to get to know each other and their lecturers in an informal setting while taking in the sights, smells, tastes, sounds, and history of two significant Moravian cities.

In addition to the administrative meeting at the beginning of the weekend, covering the particulars of the program, students participated in a printmaking workshop with an emphasis on textile and fabric printing techniques given by artist Zuzana Krascovicova. The students created their own printing stamps using wood, foam, and rubber, and then printed their own designs on cloth bags, t-shirts and canvas. This workshop was held in the spacious and architecturally significant building of the Institut Slavonice which forms one end of the main square in Slavonice and also houses the Centre For the Future. Students and lectures later visited the architecturally significant tower in the old town wall. This building is now used as an exhibition space and multi-purpose events center, and students visited the conceptual art exhibition. The following day students where able to enjoy a sunny walk and a visit to several nearby bunkers and historical sites before returning to Prague full of energy and ideas to begin a new year of creative academic research and projects.

A group of 14 graphic design students of Prague College spent one week in London in the middle of February to attend the 4 Designers Conference. The conference was held over two days and was aimed at students interested in working in the design industry. The conference was held in the heart of London, where designers thrive, and thus a perfect setting for such an event. Students could also explore London’s amazing art galleries, studios and museums which made the trip a truly exciting learning experience for young designers.

The trip commenced by meeting with all students with the Graphic Design Programme Leader, Simon Gray, in the Convent Garden area of London, a former fruit and vegetable market, and now a popular shopping and social get-together area full of traditional pubs and restaurants. Here the group talked about the upcoming agenda as well as worked on personal graphic design projects.

The next day, Monday morning, the students attended the first conference delivered by Alan Herron, Creative Director at True North and Dave Brown, Chairman of the UK business and Global Head of Consumer Branding. The students felt that the presentations were very interesting and they evaluated these two particular presentations as being the top presentations of the entire conference. The presentations talked about commercial design and how individuals were introduced to this field and later on became successful designers.

Alan Herron, the first presenter, spent many years as a Creative Director and set up the successful design consultancy Giant before joining True North as a Creative Director. Some of his projects included, but were not limited to, projects for the National Portrait Gallery, Bristol Museum and People’s History Museum in Manchester to name a few. Dave Brown is a client champion for a number of global key accounts, and he has more than 25 years experience of agency brand design and has won several DBA IDEA awards.

After the conference, students visited Duke and Earl, a well-known creative agency, that has a focus on story telling for the digital age. The company works with fantastic clients such as BBC, Intel, Microsoft and Ford. The students were able to meet with the Creative Director at Duke and Earl and shadow him for the rest of the afternoon to become familiar with the company’s vision and daily workflow. The students became familiar with digital, motion graphics and interactive side of graphic design; they also received valuable advice on the importance of keeping up with new technology in today’s graphic design area. The students interviewed for this article, Honza Šafařík and Tomáš Melichar, were also impressed by the way the organisation recruits its new staff and the general working atmosphere present at the company. The company offers internships to talented young designers who in turn tend to have excellent job offers upon the conclusion of the internship. Also, the company introduces flexible schedules in light with modern technology media.

The next visit was to the Apple Store, where there was a presentation by Kyle Bean, Brighton based artist, designer and art director specialising in hand made models, sets and props. The students selected for the interview were able to identify themselves with the artist who designed all the work by hand.

The next day, Tuesday morning, the students attended the second series of seminars delivered by Fernando Gutierez and Frith Kerr. The second day’s conference was more focused on experimental media and photography in design. Namely, Fernando Gutierez’s work caught students’ attention. Fernando owns his own studio; his work includes supplements from Matador (leading literary and photography magazine) and Colors published by Benetton. He is a highly respected judge at creative awards. Frith Kerr’s presentation was also interesting by looking at design from a different angle. Frith owns her own studio, Studio Frith, and works across various media from books, posters, typefaces, signage and websites. She was featured among the “Top Ten Graphic Designers in UK“ in 2002 and in 2007 among the “UK Top Fifty Designers.“

After the conference concluded, students visited the London Times Company where they were lead by John Hill, the Illustrative Director. They could see all facets of the company from the sales area, to editorial, to publishing and creative side. They also received as a souvenir a copy of the first newspaper issue from 1785.

In their free time students explored London on their own visiting such sites as Tate Gallery, an interactive art project and Film Museum among others. The students evaluated the trip as a valuable and interesting experience which allowed them to see the international perspective of graphic design from a different angle.

výstavu, která zachycuje jejich individuální osobnosti stejně jako společného týmového ducha. 

 

 

Idea ruky vznikla na základě faktu, že se jedná o skupinu pěti designérů. Ruka představuje jejich kreativitu, jakožto čtyř studentů
grafického designu a jedné studentky oboru Interactive Media. Každý z nich navrhl design jednoho prstu ve svém stylu.
Studenti k tomu říkají: "Chtěli jsme, aby naše práce mluvila za nás. Naše výstava je inovativní a
netradiční, přijďte se podívat na naše díla."

Na výstavu jsou všichni srdečně zváni do Prague College dne 8.prosince od 18 hodin! 

 

Studenti School of Art & Design se účastnili zajímavého programu s názvem Experience@Singapore. Již podruhé mohli studenti Prague College využít skvělé příležitosti a prohlédnout si z blízka světově známé společnosti v designérské oblasti.

Prague College společně s Tancem Praha o.s. uspořádali výstavu studentských prací na téma redesign vizuální identity občanského sdružení Tanec Praha. Zadání projektu proběhlo v rámci předmětu Corporate Identity, který je na Prague College vyučován v bakalářském programu v oblasti Graphic Design. Práce představují kreativní vizuální projekty zaměřené na prezentaci nové identity Tanec Praha.

Prague College students from the Interactive Media and Fine Art programs attended two interesting lectures by American composer and improviser Pauline Oliveros and by one of the world's most distinguished living psychologists, Philip Zimbardo.

 

The first lecture, presented by Pauline Oliveros and held in the American Center in Prague, consisted of a multimedia presentation of a recently completed environmental work entitled Tower Ring, and a short activity introducing lecture attendees to the fundamentals of Oliveros' listening discipline Deep Listening.
Ms. Oliveros is an early pioneer in the field of electronic music, and an important figure in the tradition of Experimental music within the US.   She is a founder and director of the Deep Listening Institute, and performs across the world in major art, developmental technology, and experimental music festivals.  Now in her 80th year, her career has spanned 6  decades.  Ms. Oliveros was in Prague to perform on the premier concert of the Babel Festival taking place in Divadlo Archa.

 

Later that evening students attended a seminar at the Prague contemporary art center DOX, given by Philip Zimbardo. The lecture was entitled "My Jorney from Evil to Heroism"  and detailed his infamous Stanford Prison Experiment, recent examples of evil and heroism in the world, and his new foundation the Heroic Imagination Project (HIP).

 

   

 

 

A new group within the Prague College Research Center from the School of Art & Design has organized a series of workshops for its students and faculty members over the summer.
The Experimental Arts Research Lab (EARL) is a new initiative for further research and development of student and faculty authored projects requiring a dedication of time and resources beyond what is available in the classroom. 

Members of EARL participated in collaboration with nomadic arts organization LIBAT earlier this summer in the Museum 3000 exhibition  in the National Museum, Prague, and plan to develop interactive media collaborations with other universities and institutions in future.

Letošní absolventka bakalářského programu BA (Hons) Graphic Design, Laetitia Desroches, postoupila spolu s ostatními 11 studenty do užšího výběru z téměř 1200 účastníků v mezinárodní soutěži Penquin Design Award 2011. Soutěžilo se o nejlepší obal pro knihu Gabriela Garcíi Márqueze s názvem "Sto roků samoty".

Laetitia byla pozvána na slavnostní vyhlášení cen v Londýně, kde byl její návrh obalu knihy vystaven spolu s vítěznými návrhy.

Jakub Gerhardt, student grafického designu, který nedávno navštívil Cannes, kde zastupoval Slovensko a Prague College na letošním mezinárodním festivalu kreativity s názvem Cannes Lions. Jakub navštívil kurz Roger Hatchuel Academy, který vedl Rock Bojko (bývalý kreativní ředitel a Co-President společnosti Ogilvy & Mather) a Clive Challis (ředitel reklamního studia na Central Saint Martins).
Roger Hatchuel Academy byla pojmenována po zakladateli mezinárodního festivalu kreativity Lions Cannes, aby se zde mohli setkávat a učit se o reklamním průmyslu studenti z celého světa.

 

 

 

 

Jakub se s námi podělil o zážitky ze svého výletu do Cannes:
"Návštěva Cannes Lions mi dala facku zleva doprava, vyrazila mi naprosto dech, ale především mi ukázala, kam budou mé budoucí kroky směřovat."

Jamie Fisher je kanadská umělkyně, žijící a pracující v Praze. Na Prague College letos zakončila bakalářské studium v oblasti Fine Art Experimental Media. Jamie přišla do Prahy v roce 2008 z Montrealu, kde se věnovala ilustraci a designu.  Rádi bychom Vás pozvali na výstavu této nadějné slečny z Kanady.

 

 

 

Jamie bude vystavovat portréty, které vytvořila během posledního roku. Soustředí se na zachycení emocí ve tvářích jednotlvců a snaží se reflektovat pravdy o jednotlivých předmětech, ať už dobré nebo špatné.

Výstava  proběhne v galerii Napa | Prokopská 8 | 7-28.7.2011| Vernisáž se uskuteční 7. července od 19 hodin

From 2008-2011, students in the Prague College Graphic Design programmes were asked to create original album cover art work for the Orchestre Rock-A-Mambo, for an assignment dealing with the task designing across cultural contexts. Soukous music was selected in part due to its obscurity and cultural specificity: since few people have heard of African rumba, and since the Orchestre Rock-A-Mambo tracks have never been released outside of original 78rpm records, there is no prevailing idea about what such an album cover should look like. The usual visual clichés associated with Africa are inadequate to properly describe the unique, urban, hybridized dance craze of Congolese mambo.

Students were required to rely on their powers of research and social investigation to develop appropriate and striking visual solutions. This exhibition presents some of the best and most creative designs produced for the assignment, and demonstrates the extent to which graphic design can magnify a specific moment of cultural history and thereby elevate it from relative obscurity.

 

 

 

About the music:

Brazzaville, on the banks of the Congo in central Africa. The local radio station boosts its signal during War years to broadcast popular dance music —including a health dose of Afro-Cuban rhythms — to free French forces fighting in distant parts of the African continent. A taste develops among the local record-buying public for Latin rhythms – idioms that descended centuries earlier from African musical traditions, in part. Musicians in Brazzaville and across the river in Kinshasa blend imported meringue and cha cha cha beats with the local music to create an idiosyncratic blend known as Soukous or African rumba. In 1959, Joseph Kabasele – also known as Le Grand Kalle in deference to his musical stature – leads a all-star selection of members from his Africa Jazz and Franco's OK Jazz big bands into Studio Esengo to launch a new band, Orchestre Rock-A-Mambo.

Výstava studentů z oboru Graphic Design se bude konat, stejně jako minulý rok, v galerii AF BKK a vernisáž proběhne 19.5. v 18 hodin. Studenti z oboru Fine Art Experimental Media zahájí svou výstavu dne 18.5. v 19 hodin v industriálním prostoru Trafačka.

George Allen - vedoucí katedry Art & Design, uspořádal pro studenty fotografický workshop, který byl zaměřen na pokročilé zacházení s fotoaparátem a správnou světlost záběrů. Workshop byl rozdělen do 2 částí, kde se George Allen v první části věnoval expozici, ostrosti a hloubce záběrů a v druhé části umělému osvětlení a využití zeleného pozadí ve studiu.

Studenti a profesoři programu Interactive Media prožili 3 dny plné umění a multimédií, včetně zajímavých akcí a výstav, konferencí, workshopů, performancí a koncertů. Transmediale je bezpochyby nejdůležitější festival současného digitálního umění na světě.

Festival přesně mapuje umělecké oblasti, které jsou předmětem výuky v programu Interacitve Media i v bakalářském programu Fine Art a je tedy velkým přínosem a inspirací pro studenty Prague College.

"Jednalo se o vůbec první výlet v rámci programu Interactive Media mimo klasickou vyuku. Takový pilotní projekt, který se velmi vydařil. Rádi bychom brali naše studenty na festival pravidelně a nabídli jim i další zajímavé aktivity navíc," říká Marie Silondi, vedoucí programu Interactive Media.

Studentky grafického designu Natalia Ogneva a Silvia Weinzettelová uspěly se svými návrhy v profesionální konkurenci. Přidaly se tak k dalším úspěšným studentům, kteří již v průběhu studia prokázali, že mají talent a že dokáží v praxi zužitkovat znalosti, které získávají na fakultě School of Art & Design na Prague College

Natalia Ogneva, letošní absolventka programu HND Graphic Design, byla oslovena renomovaným uměleckým studiem Artěl. Prvním výsledkem jejich spolupráce je nový motiv pro podzimní kolekci Sequence.

Další úspěšnou studentkou grafického designu na Prague College je Silvia Weinzettelová. V užším výběru poroty mezinárodního bienále LOGO 2010 se objevila hned dvě její díla. S logem vytvořeným pro The English Academy získala druhé místo ve studentské kategorii.

Prague College se stala partnerem prvního ročníku mezinárodního festivalu nezávislého filmu, videoartu, digitální tvorby a performance ANEMIC. Festival přinese do Prahy multidisciplinární program plný promítání, videoartu, krátkých filmů, animací, dokumentárních filmů, interaktivních a video instalací, audiovizuálních performancí, naplánovány jsou veřejné diskuze a setkání s umělci.

 

 

 

ANEMIC se uskuteční v Praze 4. - 16. listopadu. Na promítání v Biu Ponrepo naváže několikadenní série veřejných performancí a instalací NO STANDARTS.
9. listopadu se v galerii AVU otevře výstava audiovizuálních a interaktivních instalací "Immerse Me!", která představí i díla z projektu Underground City XXI.

 

ANEMIC festival je projektem neziskové organizace M77 - Arts, Digital Creation & Training, jejímž zakladatelem je Kristof Slussareff, principal lecturer Prague College.

Do organizace festivalu se zapojilo mnoho dobrovolníků, mezi nimi i studenti Prague College - Peter Marenčík a Beat Wicky. Další zástupci Prague College se přímo účastní programu: Yevgeniya Drovossekova představí svou živou audiovizuální performanci při zahájení festivalu 4.11. v Biu Ponrepo, principal lecturer Jorge Boehringer na festivalu představí svou současnou tvorbu.

 

Mezi promítanými filmy se objeví také dva dokumenty, které natočili Masa Hilcisin a Cazim Dervisevic. "Queer Sarajevo Festival" (2009) se zabývá násilím proti gay populaci v Sarajevu a druhý dokument "Not If You Can But You Must" (2006) přináší příběh života v nejodlehlejší vesnici Bosny a Hercegoviny Lukomir.

Na začátku podzimního semestru se studenti a lektoři programu BA (Hons) Fine Art Experimental Media vydali  na kreativní víkend, který strávili v mezinárodní umělecké škole Art Mill na šumavském venkově. Společně  experimentovali s fotografií a hudbou, kdy se nechali inspirovat krásným prostorem starého mlýna a venkovským prostředím.

 

  

 

Zde jsou k vidění úžasné fotky, které v rámci uměleckého víkendu vznikly!

Laetitia Desroches (HND Graphic Design), Alexandr Pánek (HND Interactive Media) a Petr Zápotocký (HND Interactive Media) byli vybráni, aby se zúčastnili návštěvy Singapuru na pozvání místní vládní agentury Contact Singapore.
Mají pět dní na to, aby poznali nejen krásy města, ale především, aby se setkali s vedoucími představiteli světových společností, zůčastnili se exkurzí do renomovaných studií a seznámili se s nejnovějšími trendy v oblasti mediální tvorby.

Zatím se podívali například do regionálního ředitelství společností Ubisoft a Double Negative, navštívili Fusionopolis a Scrawl Studios, jednu z nejziskovějších animačních společností v Asii.

How do penguins survive at the polar circle under the northern lights? What do they do when there is no sun and they cannot sleep? We’ve surveyed a few young local “Czech penguins” for you, who confessed what prevents them from feeding their babies, building an Igloo or playing hide-and-seek.

The Interactive installation which is unique for the “Czech penguin” was prepared by students of the School of Art & Design and the School of IT & Computing at Prague College.

During fall semester students of Graphic Design worked on ideas for the visual identity of Underground City XXI. They researched the ideas behind the project in cooperation with the Interactive Media and Computing departement, as well as Libat and Labin Art Express.

The Switchboard project was a smooth continuation of a series of META.ID-(III, IV) workshops, organized by LIBAT - Hybrid Laboratories for the Arts and New Technologies and Interactive Media department.

The exhibition took place thanks to the collaboration of Interactive Media students and their tutors: Pascal Silondi, Bethany Lacktorin, Radim Labuda, Christophe Saidi, George Allen, and Marie Silondi.

From May 16-26, 2009 Prague College students transformed a neighborhood gallery space into an interactive labyrinth with the help of new technologies. Students and lecturers were working together and surprised us with the different types of audio, video and sound installations on show.

The purpose of META.ID-s IV was to develop a 5 days in-situ workshop at Prague College. That workshop was produced by LIBAT - Hybrid Laboratory for Arts and New Technologies, and was directed by Pascal and Marie Silondi. We created a collaborative, sensible and inter-media experience, inviting artists, IM lecturer’s like Christophe Saidi, students and technological experts like Quix to work in a collaborative environment.

Interested in the use of new media and new technologies in arts and design, we presented technological principles like motion capture, MIDI protocols and sensors. We discussed and then created a hybrid environment, inter-connecting concepts, un-linear story-telling, aesthetics and technical know-how. We created an experimental space in between performance and installation, crossing media and techniques like video, sound, laser and 3D space, in a contemporary interactive and navigable mixed architecture open to an audience.

We would like to thank Prague College and the students from Interactive Media, who were involved in all aspects of the workshop.

Cílem konference META.ID-s III bylo rozvinout pěti denní workshop v Prague College. Tento workshop, vedený LIBAT - Hybrid Laboratory For Arts and New Technologies, nabídnul vstřícný a vnímavý přístup a zkušenosti. Přizváni byli umělci ze Slovinska, Francie a České republiky, dále také studenti a experti v oblasti technologií.

Účastníci workshopu prozkoumali různé typy současných médií, technik a jazykových představení, videí, tvoření zvuků, interaktivních 3D rozhranní a lineárního scénář, MIDI controllers, techniky stříhání videa a programové systémy, scénografie založená na principech dynamické navigace a epice mikro-příběhů a mikro-scén. Vše bylo vytvořeno speciálně pro tento workshop studenty Prague College.

V pátek 14. 11. 2009 od 19:00 hodin proběhne v café Nordica večer nazvaný “The Seven audio-visual live mix“. Studenti oboru Nová média uvedou v rámci předmětu Computer Interface Design Principles sedm různých audio-vizuálních  představení.

Cílem akce je prozkoumat, jak se navzájem ovlivňují  multimédia užívající VJ’s software, dále pak prozkoumat jejich možnosti v oblasti zvukové analýzy, slučitelnosti s MIDI a DMX protokoly, a popřemýšlet nad tím, jak nahradit klávesnici či myš sloužící ke kontrole interaktivních digitálních příběhů.

Akce nabídne různorodé prostředí i atmosféru . Na programu se podílejí: Zaira Kulsarieyeva, Dinh Thi Le, Jamba Mulimbwe, Tomas Patlich, Jana Peknikova, Tihana Suput-Valent a Alexandra Varsova.

 

 

 

Tým studentů grafického designu na Prague College se v rámci projektu 'Design For Need' podílel na vytvoření nového designu pro Dětský domov v Nechanicích. Dětský domov v Nechanicích je největším zařízením tohoto typu v České republice, pečující o děti a dospívající ve věku 2 - 18 let.

Studenti museli vytvořit nový design a logo tohoto zařízení, které pak použili k vytvoření nového designu webových stránek a propagačního materiálu.

 

Studenti spolupracovali na projektu s dětmi a zaměstnanci Dětského domova v Nechanicích. Právě oni rozhodli o finální verzi grafického designu a loga, které bude dětský domov používat v budoucnosti.

Prague College a studio Grafického designu by tímto rádi vyjádřili své poděkování Dětskému domovu v Nechanicích za příležitost podílet se na tomto projektu a zároveň poděkovali všem za spolupráci.

 

Prague College se bude na podpoře dětského domova a vzájemné spolupráci podílet i v budoucnosti.
